1. Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band
In this surgery, the surgeon places a ring that comes with an inner inflatable band. It is placed to create a small pouch in your stomach. There is a small balloon inside the band, filled with salt solution. This makes you feel full after having alittle amount of food. The surgeon can adjust the band opening by injection or remove the solution through the small device that is placed under your skin.
2. Gastric Bypass
This is also popular in the name of theRoux-en-Y gastric bypass. This surgery is done in two parts. First, the surgeon creates a small pouch at the upper part of your stomach. Thus, you will feel full after eating asmall amount of food. Next, he makes another pouch at the lower portion of the stomach and cuts the small intestine to channelize the food from the upper portion to the lower. Therefore, the entire amount of food is not digested altogether.
3.Gastric Sleeve
Gastric sleeve is often preferred by the patients than gastric bypass as the former one takes lesser time than the bypass one. This is also known as vertical sleeve gastrectomy. Here, the surgeon removes 60% of the stomach and leaves only a tube-shaped portion. When you don’t have enough space for much food, you will consume little. But, this surgery can’t be reversed as acertain portion of your stomach is removed permanently.
4. Duodenal Switch
The other name for this surgery is abiliopancreatic diversion. This method is more complex than the other methods. Basically, in this process, two surgeries are combined. While the first surgery is similar to gastric sleeve surgery, in the later part, food is bypassed through your small intestine. Again, the bypassed section is reattached to the last part of thesmall intestine so that the digestive juice mixes with the food.
These are few types of bariatric surgeries. There are more, like Lap-Band, Gastric Balloon, etc. Consult a specialist to know which one is the best and go for it.
